MAY IS COMMUNITY ACTION MONTH

We are excited to announce that May 2019 is Community Action Month, a celebration of the accomplishments of Community Action Agencies across the country who are a robust state and local force-reaching children and families in 99 percent of America's counties with life-changing services that create pathways to prosperity. As a Community Action Agency, Community Action Partnership of Lake County is committed to the Promise of Community Action: to change people's lives, embody the spirit of hope, improve communities, and make America a better place to live. We care about the entire community, and we are dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other.
 
In May 2019, Community Action Partnership of Lake County will be engaging in programs and events that showcase our innovative work in Lake County.

Community Action Partnership of Lake County Hosts

The 12 Annual Anti-Poverty 5K Walk

The 12 Annual Anti-Poverty 5K Walk and Friends & Family Day will start off with a welcome by the CEO and guest speakers then a fun morning of walking through the surrounding neighborhood. The Family and Friends Day activities directly follow the 5K Walk. Stop by to visit our exhibitors while you enjoy music, food and more. Sponsorships available see details.

WALK BEGINS: 10:00 am

START/END LOCATION: Community Action Partnership of Lake County, 1200 W. Glen Flora Av, Waukegan

REGISTRATION/CHECK-IN: 8:30-9:30 am / Registration closes 30 minutes prior to race & Welcome rally begins at 9:30 am.

COURSE MAP: Start to End: 1200 W. Glen Flora, East to Western, North to Golf, East to Greenwood, East to Sheridan, South to Glen Flora, West to 1200 W. Glen Flora (see map)

Volunteer Registration

The 12 Annual Anti-Poverty 5K Walk

Volunteer Assignments

Registration/Check-in Volunteers: Collect pledge packets and donations from participants; ensure Walk-Ups sign Release & Waiver Form; Organize bags to give out to participants; Preregistered Walkers will receive a wrist band to pick up swag bags after Walk; Distribute t-shirts; Must be available for early shift.

Greeters: Greet participants, determine if they are pre-registered individual or walk-ups, then direct them to registration/check-in area for shirt, Must be available for early shift.

Volunteer Check-in: Will check-in volunteers as they arrive, distribute t-shirts, and ensure that consent forms are filled out by each volunteer; Must be available for early shift.

Directional/Cheerleader Guides: Volunteers will be posted at locations on the route with signs cheering and steering walkers in the right direction.

Water/Bath Stop Guides: Assist with set-up/breakdown of tables/chairs, banner, balloons at stops; Pass out beverages to walk participants.

First Aid/Security: First Aid Volunteers will be stationed at start/end location and will maintain communication with water/bath stop volunteers in-case of emergency on the Walk route.

Parking Assistants: Stand near parking lot entrance, and near marshaling area to direct parking to the rear of the building, in-case there is an overflow, attendees can be directed to park on side streets.

Wherever You Need Me Volunteer: Event set-up, cheering squad, keeping event area clean, event break-down, handing out water, etc.! You may fill in multiple roles throughout your volunteer shift.

*Note: Adult volunteers and volunteers (under 18) guardian’s must complete a RELEASE AND WAIVER OF ALL CLAIMS the day of the Walk.
